This systems automatically e-mails requests for letters of recommendation. To ensure your references receive the request and respond positively, please read the instructions and FAQs below.

• How do I request a letter of recommendation?
  
  1. Finalize your choice of programs. The request will changed based on these programs.
  2. Contact your reference and ask for a letter.
  3. Tell your reference to expect an email entitled "Letter of Recommendation for [[Your Name]]" from Johnny.Erickson@nasa.gov with more details.
  4. Tell your reference that letters are preferred by January 15, 2008, but must be received by January 21, 2008.
  5. Provide the name, phone number, relationship, and e-mail address of the reference in the fields below.
  6. Check the "Request Letter" checkbox.
  7. Click "Save". This will cause the system to send the request.
• My reference never received the request, now what?
  
  1. Double check the email address. If it is wrong, follow the instructions under "How do I change my reference's email address."
  2. Make sure your reference can receive email from Johnny.Erickson@nasa.gov. Ask your reference to check his or her email filters and junk mail folder.
  3. Ask your reference for an alternative email address. Follow the instructions under "How do I change my reference's email address."
  4. If this still doesn't work, contact Johnny.Erickson@nasa.gov.

  1. Tell your reference that you are updating his or her email address and the system may generate a withdrawal letter followed by another request.
  2. Ask your reference to only respond to the latest request.
  3. Change the email address.
  4. Check the "Request Letter" checkbox.
  5. Click "Save".

  1. Contact your previous reference and tell him or her of your decision.
  2. Tell your previous reference that he or she may receive a withdrawal e-mail.
  3. Follow the instructions under "How do I request a letter of recommendation"

  • DO try to make sure your recommendation arrives before your application deadline.
  • DO request a letter from your previous NASA mentor, if you have one.
  • DO NOT expect your references to accommodate last-minute requests.

Letters are preferred by January 15, 2008, but must be received by January 21, 2008.
